Who operates this service
MyLocationTracker is a product of Mental Monkey Software (ABN 13 151 087 978), an independent Australian software business operating since 2017. Mental Monkey Software is the entity responsible for personal information handled through this site and the MyLocationTracker apps. For privacy enquiries, email [email protected].
What we collect
- Account details — username, email address, an optional recovery email address, and mobile number, collected when you register.
- Location data — when you enable tracking in the mobile app, your device sends its precise location (coordinates, timestamp, and reported accuracy). This is the core of the service and is treated as sensitive information.
- Device information — a device identifier and the device name you choose, so your locations can be attributed to the right device.
- Family and feature data — family circles you create or join, places (geofences), routes and their schedules, and temporary share links you create.
- Payment data — paid plans are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card number; we hold only your subscription status and plan tier.
- Website analytics — on the marketing site only, and only if you accept the cookie banner (see Cookies below).
- Service logs — standard technical logs (such as request times and error details) used to operate and secure the service.
How we use your information
- To provide the service: showing live locations and history to you and the family circles you choose, and sending the alerts you configure (place arrivals and departures, route deviation and late alerts).
- To send service emails such as email verification and password resets.
- To manage subscriptions and billing through Stripe.
- To operate, secure, and improve the service.
We do not sell personal information, we do not share location data with advertisers, and there are no advertising networks or trackers inside the app.
Location data: visibility and retention
- Who can see it — your location is visible only to your own account and to members of family circles you have joined. Temporary share links expose a single device's label and current position only (never your name or account details), expire after at most 72 hours, and can be revoked at any time.
- How long we keep it — location history is retained according to your plan tier (for example, 24 hours on the Free tier and longer windows on paid tiers). History older than your plan's window is deleted automatically by a daily purge.
- Map tiles are self-hosted — the map you see is served from our own infrastructure. Viewing the map never sends your position or your map activity to a third-party map provider.
Cookies and tracking technologies
This section is our cookie policy.
- The app (
/app) uses only strictly necessary storage: authentication tokens and your own preferences (such as cookie-consent choice). No analytics or advertising trackers run inside the app. - The marketing site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand visits — but only after you click Accept on the cookie banner. We use Google Consent Mode v2 with analytics storage denied by default; declining (or doing nothing) means no analytics cookies are set.
- Your choice is stored locally in your browser (
mlt-cookie-consent). You can change your mind at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser, after which the banner will ask again. - There are no advertising cookies on any part of the service.
Third-party services
- Stripe — payment processing for paid plans.
- Google — optional "Sign in with Google", and Google Analytics on the marketing site when you consent.
- Mailjet — delivery of transactional email (verification, password reset).
- Cloudflare — network delivery and security in front of the service.
Each of these providers receives only what is needed for its function.
Your rights
You can access, correct, or ask us to delete your personal information — including your entire location history and account — by emailing [email protected]. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles; if you are in a jurisdiction with additional rights (such as the GDPR), we honour those too. If you are unsatisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service evolves. Material changes will be announced on this site. The "Last updated" date above always reflects the current version.
